抬 tái 动 1. 举,提高:to lift or raise. 例如:抬头 (to raise one's head), 抬手 (to raise one's hand). 2. 合力共举:to carry together with force. 例如:抬轿子 (to carry a sedan chair). 3. 〈方〉[抬杠]喻争辩:to argue or debate. 例如:他们两人一谈到这个问题,抬起杠来就没个完 (When the two talked about this issue, the argument seemed endless). 4. 〈量〉用于两人抬的东西:used as a measure for things carried by two people. 例如:十抬妆奁 (ten carriers of treasures). 本义: 合力共举一物 (Original meaning: to carry an object together). 造字法: 形声。从手,台声 (Character formation: phonetic and semantic components). 同本义 ([En.] carry by two or more persons) 高举,使升高 ([En.] raise) 竭力提高 ([En.] force) 〈方〉指争辩 ([En.] argue) 两个人合力抬物,一杠为一抬 (Two people carry things together, one lever for one lift). 例如:金银财宝共是几十抬 (The gold and silver treasures amount to dozens of lifts).
