Definition
衈 (èr)1. In ancient times, before a sacrificial ceremony, livestock were slaughtered to obtain blood for smearing on objects. 2. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, refers to bleeding from the eyes or ears.(动) - To smear animal blood as a pledge before sacrificial rituals. Examples:- “门、夹室皆用鸡,先门而后夹室,其衈皆于屋下。” — “For doors and the inner room, chickens were used; first for the door and then for the inner room, and the blood smearing was all done beneath the house.” (from The Book of Rites)- “叩其鼻以衈社也。” — “To tap its nose for the blood smearing of the altar.” (from Commentary on the Spring and Autumn Annals) 引 1.
