hafnium

铪 hā 〈名〉 1. A metallic element, symbol Hf, with a high melting point, found in zirconium ores. It is used as a cathode in X-ray tubes, and alloys of hafnium with tungsten or molybdenum are used as electrodes in high-pressure discharge tubes. 2. A gray, high-melting-point tetravalent metal element similar to zirconium in chemistry, found in most zirconium ores.
